The variety description states the presence of high resistance to damage by a golden potato nematode. Among other things, the value of the Ausonia variety lies in the high yield of universal tubers for sale. The variety belongs to the category demanded for sale and forms the crop at a very early date.

Landing rules

There are only three traditional methods of planting potatoes: smooth planting, comb method and planting of seed material in trenches. Regardless of which method is used, the basic rules should be followed. Mandatory operations for preparing seed potatoes for planting are heating, germination in the light, sorting and calibration of tubers.

  1. Of great importance for potato productivity is the selection of tubers for planting, which should be medium in size and not have signs of disease or pest damage.
  2. Potatoes are recommended to be sprouted not in the dark, but in the light, laid out in a layer of no more than two tubers, then the resulting light sprouts will be green and as strong as possible.
  3. To stimulate the appearance of sprouts, as well as to accelerate the readiness of the material for planting, tubers should be treated in a solution prepared on the basis of a mixture of ash, trace elements and copper sulfate.
  4. A good result is the treatment of tubers in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate for 45 minutes, followed by soaking in an Epin-Extra solution at the rate of 2 drops per glass of water.
  5. It is recommended to apply nitrofosk fertilizer universal for potatoes when planting directly in each planting hole at the rate of 1 tbsp. l per plant.
  6. Potatoes can be grown in a wide range of soil reaction pH, from 4 to 8, since this plant belongs to calcium-like vegetable crops and tolerates the increased acidity of the soil quite well.

It is recommended to prepare the soil in the autumn period in order to re-dig the soil in early spring with the addition of the amount of fertilizer necessary for the full enrichment of the soil. Very well, the potato grows and bears fruit when grown on light, well-fertilized humus soils. When planting, you should adhere to a distance between plants of 30-35 cm with row spacing of 70 cm, which meets the requirements of agricultural technology for growing potatoes.

Care Features

It is possible to care for potato plantations of small area without the use of mechanized equipment. However, on large potato fields, manual plant care is difficult.

  • In the presence of extensive plantations of potatoes, manual weeding takes a lot of time and effort, which involves the use of a walk-behind tractor with a rotary harrow.
  • The first weeding followed by shallow loosening should be carried out before the emergence of potato shoots.
  • Potato, as a plant of temperate climate, does not place high demands on irrigation activities.
  • The first watering the plant will need about a week after emergence. The average amount of water per bush is at least 5 liters. In the driest and hottest seasons, irrigation can be carried out both by furrows and by ordinary sprinkling.

  • Most often, rotted manure acts as a highly effective fertilizer for potatoes, the use of which contributes to almost double the yield of this vegetable crop.

For feeding potatoes, it is allowed to use various forms of nitrogen-containing fertilizers with the exception of ammonium chloride, which is characterized by a high content of chlorine harmful to this vegetable crop.

  • It is customary to spud potatoes by adding soil directly to the stems of the plant. Such an event should be held at least three times per season. However, it is worth remembering that hilling can significantly increase the evaporation surface of the soil, therefore, in arid conditions and in the absence of regular irrigation measures, it is absolutely impossible to carry out such a procedure on potato plantings.

Potato growers reviews

The early ripening Ausonia variety with a delicious, light yellow flesh color is popular among gardeners and potato growers. This variety is very popular when grown under hay, which allows you to create attractive potato bushes with clean and beautiful tubers.

Gardeners note that the variety is practically not affected by diseases and pests, and carrying out just a couple of preventive treatments allows you to completely forget about plant health problems. On average, each potato bush forms about 10-12 tubers. Even with insufficiently competent and high-quality care, potatoes of the Ausonia variety can produce a good crop of salable condition, which is fully suitable for sale.
