Belarusian potato varieties continue to be popular at home, but also in other countries where this crop is grown for consumption. Russian potato growers are well aware of most varieties and their description. They continue to be cultivated in different regions of the country, taking into account the climatic conditions. This has been going on for decades.

Growing potatoes

The development of varieties begins with the climatic zone in mind. It is known that in Belarus there are 3 of them. For Belarusians, potatoes are the second most important product after bread. Therefore, breeders are trying to breed as many species as possible that will give a rich harvest.

Early ripening species

In areas with a temperate climate, it is customary to cultivate early maturing varieties. Most of them are successfully grown in Ukraine and Russia.


The potato variety is distinguished by an increased yield of tubers and an early return of the crop. Ripe root crops have a good presentation. Oblong vegetables with light yellow flesh. One fruit contains no more than 15% starch. Potato mass - 85-140 g.

It is characterized by a short ripening period of the crop. Ripe fruits can be eaten 1.5 months after the first shoots appear. Most often it is affected by late blight of tubers, but does not lend itself to potato cancer. A strong immune system prevents the leaves from curling. Rarely, fruits can rot, but this happens in isolated cases.


This variety is often chosen for growing by gardeners, as it does not need whimsical care. At the same time, it gives a high yield of root crops. The description of the variety includes the following characteristics: long-term storage of fruits, early maturity, drought resistance, excellent taste. The fruit is covered with an even dark skin. It has small eyes that are located on the surface and do not lie.

Creamy flesh potatoes are firm to the touch. During heat treatment, it changes color. It does not disintegrate during cooking and retains its original shape. Starch level 11 to 16%. Competent crop care allows you to get fruits weighing 165 g.

Lapis lazuli

Another early maturing potato with a characteristic potato flavor. The fruits are smooth to the touch, round, the eyes are not very deep. The section shows white flesh covered with yellow skin. It has an average starch content. The mass of ripe fruits often reaches 120 g.

Lapis lazuli is a vivid representative of super early potato varieties. Tuber formation is fast, so the crop can be harvested 4–6 weeks after germination. The immune system resists attack from a number of diseases that most commonly affect the nightshade family. The green part of the plant is affected by late blight.

Many early-ripening potato varieties have been bred in Belarus. Only the most popular ones are presented here. There are 124 species that are included in the state register. Local breeding presents a choice of 44 types of potatoes.


In addition to the early ripening period, gardeners do not bypass potatoes belonging to mid-season varieties. The growing period takes no more than 100 days. The most popular are Dubrava, Krinitsa and Volat. Each person selects the appropriate option for himself.

Table potatoes are endowed with resistance to many types of diseases. Unfortunately, she often suffers from late blight. The oblong bulbs are covered with a thick red skin. The flesh inside is yellow. Recommended for people who prefer boiled varieties.

Starch levels can be as high as 18%. Shrubs tolerate drought well. After planting, it grows on any soil. Reacts positively to mineral fertilizers.
