Ficus Benjamin: methods and features of the formation of the crown

Ficus Benjamin every year becomes more and more popular in our country. And this is not surprising: the plant is characterized not only by external attractiveness and high decorativeness, but also by its unpretentiousness when grown. One of the nuances that require special attention of the grower is the correct implementation of the formation of the crown of the plant.

General rules

It is most advisable to perform crown formation on Benjamin's ficuses precisely in the phase of activation of shoot growth. As a rule, in the spring, buds wake up on the sections of the lateral branches of the plant, and at this time the ficus is ready for pruning. A significant part of the species of ficus Benjamin looks very impressive after the correct formation of the crown, and the plant can become a real decoration of the modern interior of the living room.

For uniform growth after formation, it is important to ensure proper illumination of the plant. In addition, it should be remembered that pruning is done with an exceptionally clean and sharp tool. It is most convenient to use a knife or a small garden pruner for this purpose. On all slices, you should use a napkin to remove the milky juice that is released, and then you need to sprinkle the slices with activated carbon crushed to a powdery state or gloss over with ordinary garden varieties.

How to form a crown

Currently, several types of trimming and forming the crown of Benjamin's ficus are widely used.

Sanitary pruning of ficus

Sanitary pruning of ficus is carried out regularly and consists in the removal of all dried, as well as broken or underdeveloped shoots of the plant, which can serve as a source of infection with infections and fungal infections.

Anti-Aging Ficus Pruning

Dwarf species of Benjamin's ficus after frostbite or drying of the upper part of the plant may require performing a “stump” anti-aging pruning, which allows the ficus to grow rapidly due to root growth.

Ficus crown forceps

It is carried out in order to form a more magnificent and beautiful crown on Benjamin's ficus and consists in regularly shortening, or tweezing, shoots. Pincing is inherently pinching the apical part of the shoots, which activates the development of side shoots. The procedure is carried out in the spring or summer. It is allowed to pincer Benjamin's ficus from February to July, at the stage of active plant growth.

Vaccination for crown formation

The most popular technique among gardeners, which is quite easy and quick to get rid of such a plant defect as the absence of one or more branches.

To form a crown of a ficus is possible not only with the help of cropping. You can use wire or spacers to help the shoots grow in the right direction. For the proper formation of the crown of the plant, special devices are implemented in stores that are also used by lovers of such fascinating art as bonsai.

How to Braid Ficus Benjamin

Shaping and splicing

To give the stem part of the ficus the desired shape in a flower pot, several plant specimens should be planted. They should be the same semi-lignified shoots with a length of at least 15 centimeters.

To create a braid trunk yourself, you need to plant three shoots of the plant. Creating a spiral trunk can be provided with a pair of shoots, as they grow, the braiding of the trunks is carried out in accordance with the idea.

When weaving the trunks into a pigtail or spiral, remove all side shoots. The weaving should not be too dense and strong so that there is no violation of the thickening and development of the trunks. It is important to fix all stages of weaving with soft woolen threads at an angle of 45 degrees and without pressure. Thread fixation updates every two months. It is recommended to provide plant trunks with supports.

Types of crown

Florists can independently and fairly easily create several types of Benjamin ficus crown.

Crown bush

The formation of this type of crown is carried out by pinching the main shoot, which activates the side kidneys. When the side shoots reach a length of 10 centimeters, they also pinch. As a result, a very dense crown is formed.

Crohn's sculpture

It is formed on small-leaved varieties, including Benjamin's ficus. Cutting allows you to give the plant almost any shape, for example, any geometric shape.

Crown Braid

A rather painstaking, but very effective method of formation, which allows you to weave a spiral or a pigtail from several shoots, "collect" the shoots into a fence or net.

Krone Stamb

It is formed in young plants having a good central shoot. In the process of removing the lateral processes, only five top shoots should be left. Such manipulations are performed until the plant reaches the required height, after which the apical bud is pinched. After some time, the side shoots are trimmed on the plant. One of the varieties of the crown-stem is a longline stamb, which involves the formation of a crown of three parts.

Ficus Benjamin Bonsai

At home, it is most convenient to grow bonsai from the ficus of Benjamin. In this case, the flower pot should not be a too deep container with legs and drainage holes.

The main work on creating such a plant is as follows:

  • Obtaining several cuttings, the length of which is at least 12 centimeters and rooting them in a prepared container with a drainage layer and high-quality soil mixture. Cuttings should be planted as close to each other as possible.
  • During the growth process, the shoots should be interlaced according to any desired pattern and the weave should be fixed with the help of woolen threads.
  • After rooting, the topsoil should be gradually removed, exposing the root system. To make the roots decorative, stones or wire should be used.
  • After the plant reaches the required height, pinch the top of the ficus and form a crown with thinning foliage.

You can increase the decorativeness using moss and other attributes. Caring for such a plant is standard and consists in irrigating, fertilizing and protecting against drafts, which are detrimental to bonsai.

Ficus Benjamin: Care

By trimming ficus, you can create almost any shape, choosing the most suitable for the interior. The formation of the crown of the plant allows you to get a unique living decoration at home, and proper care will ensure the health and beauty of the plant.
