March radish planting technology for film

Radish is an edible plant and is grown as a healthy and tasty vegetable crop in many countries. The name of this popular vegetable comes from the Latin word radix, or root. According to the method of cultivation, greenhouse and row crops are distinguished. Planting radish in March under the film allows you to get the earliest possible vitamin and vegetable products.

Seed preparation

Planting radishes in March involves a competent selection of seed material. It is also necessary to take into account the peculiarities of planting in the spring and to know at what depth the sowing of seed material is carried out. In order to sow radish in the early spring period under the film, it is recommended to give preference to early varieties of this vegetable crop that are resistant to temperature changes and are not prone to shooting.

The most promising varieties for spring planting include: “Sora”, “Carmen”, “White Nights”, “Red Sun”, “Pharaoh”, “Firefly”, “Premier”, “Lydia”.

Good results are shown in spring cultivation of such super-ripe radish varieties as 18 Days Red Early and "Ultra early red."

Correctly and timely planted radishes allow you to use the area freed up after harvesting for growing other vegetable crops and greens. You can plant radishes under the film cover in March, which allows you to get the earliest possible harvest. Optimal is the placement of radishes in the ground between long-growing garden crops, the developmental periods of which are long. Usually, in mixed plantings, along with radishes, onions, white cabbage, carrots, seedlings of cucumbers or tomatoes are used.

To select the most full-bodied and germinating radish seeds, it is necessary to fill the seed with water. For planting seeds that are sunk to the bottom are suitable. They are recommended to be disinfected by soaking for about 30−35 min in a slightly pink solution of pharmacy potassium permanganate. Any other measures for preparing seeds for sowing are not required, however, soaking for a day in a moistened tissue can significantly accelerate the emergence of seedlings. High-quality seed material has good germination, and subject to the technology of planting, the first seedlings will not take long.

Landing technology

The plot for growing spring radishes should be as sunny as possible, and the soil should be slightly acidic or neutral. Open soil ridges for radish cultivation are best prepared in the autumn, digging them deep and removing all weeds.

In the first decade of March, most of the snow is removed from the prepared ridges, humus or compost is poured. The use of nitroammofoski gives a good result, which you need to scatter on the surface at the rate of 1 tablespoon for each square meter of landing area. Then the ridges are covered for two weeks with a black film.

After two weeks, the black film is removed, and the soil on the ridges is thoroughly loosened. All large clods of land should be removed. Furrows with a depth of 1-1.2 cm should be carefully poured with water with the addition of several crystals of potassium permanganate. Radish seeds are laid out in moistened furrows, which should be sprinkled with a mixture of soil and sand. The distance between the seeds should be at least 4-5 cm, and the gap between the rows should be maintained at 15 cm.

From above it is recommended to throw a thin layer of snow on the ridges, which during melting will uniformly and gradually moisten the soil, providing crops with water. At the last stage of planting, arcs are installed, and then the garden film is coated. Radish seeds under the most favorable growing conditions and competent sowing germinate in five days.

Care Activities

When conducting proper sowing operations, further maintenance of radish planting is simple and consists in the implementation of the following main measures:

  • the vegetable crop is very responsive to regular watering, which should be carried out in the morning or evening;
  • it is very important not to overmoisten the soil at the last stage of the development of a vegetable crop, since excess moisture often causes root crops to crack;
  • radish grows well and forms a marketable root crop when grown on loose, breathable soils, so after each irrigation it is necessary to carry out a careful, shallow loosening of the soil;
  • fertilizing plantings with any potash fertilizer is carried out twice during the growing season of radish.

A very good effect has a single top dressing of radishes with a weak solution of urea, which should be prepared at the rate of 10 g per one bucket of water. An early ripe vegetable crop needs protective measures without the use of strong chemicals.

Possible problems

Quite often, gardeners encounter the problem of too long a period of emergence of seedlings. Typically, this problem is associated with insufficient soil moisture in the ridges, the presence of depleted soil, and is also the result of low temperature conditions.

If the spring is very cold and long, then you can use the method of growing radishes under the film on warm ridges, and in order to ensure optimal nutrition for vegetables, on depleted soils, sand and humus must be added before sowing with the addition of complex fertilizers containing nitrogen and phosphorus. On too poor soils, it is allowed to add a mullein solution or irrigate young plants with fermented herbal infusion.

How to grow radish seeds

Proper sowing is not difficult, but the process of properly placing small radish seeds is quite time-consuming. In order to simplify the sowing of radishes, you can plant seeds on a tape or use special mini-seeders designed for precision sowing of small seeds.
