"Chizhovskaya" pear is one of the most common and popular varieties of fruit trees in the Central and North-Western regions, as well as in the Middle Volga region. This variety is universal, it survives well and is characterized by increased fruitfulness. The fruits of the plant are eaten fresh; various canned foods are made from them: jam, compote, jam, jelly.

Description and characteristics of the variety

In 1993, the variety was officially listed in the State Register, and since then it has been very common in the Moscow Region, Samara and Vladimir regions. The variety is characterized by high productivity, and its fruits ripen in late summer.

The plant is unpretentious, tolerates cold well, does not need special care. The variety owes its name to the breeder Chizhov Sergey Tikhonovich, who bred it from the other two. The founders of the "Chizhovskaya" pear are:

  • Belgian variety, cultivated for many years, "Forest Beauty" - from it a new variety got unpretentiousness to growing conditions and pleasant taste;
  • "Olga" - enriched the "Chizhovskaya" pear with the ability to withstand scab, winter hardiness and productivity.

This plant is medium-sized: its maximum height is limited to 2.5 meters. In young trees, the crown has a narrow shape, and by the time the crop appears, with proper care, it becomes conical or pyramidal. There are a lot of leaves on the branches, the trunk of the plant has a gray color of dark tonality, and the branches are lighter. Fruits form on the glove.

The skin of the shoots is brown-red, lentils are randomly located on them, protruding slightly above the surface. Shoots have an average length and thickness, and a slightly curved shape.

The leaves of the plant are saturated green, oval-elongated, without hairiness. They have an average thickness, noticeably bend along the line of the vein, passing through the center.

The flowers of the plant are collected in inflorescences, which include 5-7 snow-white, cup-shaped flowers.

Fruits of the "Chizhovsky" pear variety:

  • the surface of the pears is matte, smooth, smooth;
  • the flesh has a color close to light yellow, has a melting, semi-oily structure and medium juiciness;

Pear "Chizhovskaya": features of the variety

Features, advantages and disadvantages

This plant variety begins to bear fruit 3 or 4 years after planting in the ground. It bears fruit every year, at the end of summer. It is characterized by increased productivity - up to 55-60 kg of pears can be obtained from an adult tree. A special difference of the variety is that the pears practically do not crumble, and if they fall, they can lie in the grass for a long time without losing their presentation and taste.

The variety is often grown for sale - the fruits are attractive in appearance, they tolerate transportation and storage, and consumers like the taste of these pears. The best temperature for storing ripe fruits is +1 and +2 degrees, at this temperature, they do not deteriorate until 4 months.

Pear "Chizhovskaya" differs in the increased resistance to frosts, when growing plants in the middle lane, there were no cases of freezing. The variety is remarkably adapted to other adverse weather conditions - it is not afraid of the summer heat, it does well without moisture and is unpretentious in general.

The disadvantages of the plant include grinding fruits as the plants age. To avoid this trouble, it is necessary to regularly and timely - in early spring - pruning branches. The procedure should be carried out before the start of sap flow, most often it is carried out in March.

Pollinators

In order for the plants to bear fruit well, they need pollinators - other varieties of pears located nearby. The best pollinators for the variety in question are:

  • "Northerner";
  • Rogneda;
  • "Lada."

Rules and terms of landing

A couple of months before the planting of seedlings, it is necessary to prepare the soil, if it has a high acidity, lime for this purpose. Superphosphate and potassium salt are added to the soil with a high alkaline reaction, which slightly acidifies the earth and saturates it with mineral elements.

Planting is carried out in April or in October. According to experienced gardeners, specimens planted in autumn are better able to survive and tolerate frosty winters.

  1. A landing pit is prepared ahead of time, no later than a month before planting a pear, it is dug half a meter in depth and a meter in diameter.
  2. Before planting, a sufficiently thick and strong stake is driven into the pit, to which the tree will subsequently be attached. It is advisable to place a peg on the south side of the plant trunk, as this will provide the tree with additional protection from the burning rays of the sun. Driving a stake after a plant is placed in a hole is wrong - this can damage the root system and destroy the fruit tree.
  3. The pear is placed vertically in the hole; its roots should be free and straight.
  4. After installing the seedling, the soil around it is compacted and watering is carried out - 1.5 buckets of water for each plant are enough.

Care Tips

It is important to regularly prune the branches of the plant, otherwise their excessive amount will negatively affect the quality and size of the crop. The primary formation of the crown occurs by removing almost all branches - 3-4 branches should be left on the trunk, located at an equal distance from each other and evenly along the trunk. Further pruning is to remove old and dried branches. Manipulations are performed in spring, in the month of March.

The trunk circle should be regularly weeded so that the plant does not lack in various substances and oxygen. In dry weather, watering the plant is required as the soil dries.

Young trees are often attacked by aphids and ants, so they should be treated with special insect repellents. The variety is resistant to fungal and bacterial diseases, so it does not have to be treated with pesticides.

Today, the Chizhovskaya pear is grown in Ukraine, in the middle lane and southern regions of Russia and in Belarus. Due to the characteristic feature - good tolerance of cold weather - this variety is becoming popular among gardeners living in the northern regions.

Pear: variety selection

Gardeners reviews

Alexander: "Pears began to bear fruit already for 3 years and delight my family with crops every year. Trees suffer frosts, cold winds, the scorching sun and drought without visible consequences - the number of fruits and their taste are not affected by the weather."

Vitaliy: “The seedlings were planted 5 years ago and last year (finally!) They received a harvest! The fruits turned out to be soft and juicy, fragrant and moderately sweet. I rejoiced like a child - I thought I wouldn’t try my pears anymore, since in winter the frost reached 35 degrees. But nothing - the plants did not freeze and moreover - they began to bear fruit well. "
